more babblings of an old proggie

I was watching some of the concert footage from Genesis in 1973. They have the film that was often bootleged (very badly) back in the day, and it's really nice to see it clearly and completely.

There's some REALLY funny stuff. Quite a few times you can plainly see the entire band turning away from Peter Gabriel when he dons certain costumes. Like "Oh no, if I look at him I'm gonna fall over laughing OH GOD HE HAS THE FLOWER ON DONT LOOK." I personally loved what he did in a really hokey kind of way. It's "charming" as they say. But you can tell the rest of the band was like "Awwww come ON man! That's bloody silly!" They even say so in several of the interviews.

I've loved the interviews.... Phil Collins talking about smoking too much weed to remember certain days, (I KNEW he looked stoned in one of those concerts, I mean WAY stoned) the compliments that they all pay to each other, (and themselves, they are not particularly modest) the way their eyes soften around a fond memory, the dry english cattiness... it's a valuable look inside something dear to me.

My neighbors are going to be really sick of this pretty soon.

when you told me that the band had said they had NOT used drugs during that period, it felt far fetched. i feel vindicated somehow... not that humans aren't *capable* of creating music like that unaltered, but that it just seems more ~likely~ that a few mind altering substances could contribute to the conception of it.

heh, hey it's the Obamallama :)

Yeah, ludicrous is a word one might be tempted to use. A lot.

Of course, when they weren't being ludicrous they (all three) were so often excessively pretentious...

Yes fans know all about being pretentious :)

:-P

I say again :-P

(sigh, but only because it's SO TRUE!)

hehe, and strangely enough pretention is what makes prog so great... the more the merrier
