I was watching some of the concert footage from Genesis in 1973. They have the film that was often bootleged (very badly) back in the day, and it's really nice to see it clearly and completely.

There's some REALLY funny stuff. Quite a few times you can plainly see the entire band turning away from Peter Gabriel when he dons certain costumes. Like "Oh no, if I look at him I'm gonna fall over laughing OH GOD HE HAS THE FLOWER ON DONT LOOK." I personally loved what he did in a really hokey kind of way. It's "charming" as they say. But you can tell the rest of the band was like "Awwww come ON man! That's bloody silly!" They even say so in several of the interviews.

I've loved the interviews.... Phil Collins talking about smoking too much weed to remember certain days, (I KNEW he looked stoned in one of those concerts, I mean WAY stoned) the compliments that they all pay to each other, (and themselves, they are not particularly modest) the way their eyes soften around a fond memory, the dry english cattiness... it's a valuable look inside something dear to me.

My neighbors are going to be really sick of this pretty soon.

Love, mucous and the holy trinity of Prog Rock

What a lovely weekend. Ani and I had our Christmas since we won't be seeing each other over the holidays. Both of us have raging colds (mine has been hanging on for 3 weeks) so it was lots of nose blowing, laughing, coughing and listening to her talk with a voice like Nick Nolte/Marge Simpson. Fun!

She gave me a gift that's going to keep on giving for years to come. The Genesis 1970-1975 remastered boxed set. What? Genesis? You mean like "I Can't Dance?" or "Invisible Touch?"

NO.

I mean GENESIS. I don't know what that other band is called (the phil collins project or something? I dunno)

Yeah see, that's my Genesis. They were the apex of the prog rock holy trinity for me flanked by Yes and King Crimson. Each band has it's merits, but Genesis was my D&D music, my pot music, my youth. However, if King Crimson does a 5.1 remastered boxed set, I'll just "jizz in my pants" as they say.

This boxed set is AMAZING. 5 albums remastered in Dolby 5.1 surround sound. These recordings were digitally cleaned with a fine shammy. All the hiss from ancient analog has been removed leaving the music in sparkling condition. The mixes themselves were left fairly unaltered save for spreading them into 5 channels and blessing it with modern day equalization. Its absolutely stunning.

The early Genesis recordings suffered from flat production that I felt never did their live sound justice. That has been FIXED. So, I've got Trespass, Nursery Cryme, Foxtrot, Selling England by the Pound and The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway. Each disc has lengthy interviews with the band about the specific album as well as some live rarities.

My eyes got moist on the first notes from the song "Dusk," and stayed that way while we listened to many selections. I waved my arms about like a chimp and yammered in some old stoner lingo. I dunno what I said. It's just so beautiful to hear this music in such condition. It's like it's all brand new again. It's magic.

Thank you Ani, this is so much more than a Christmas present.

I was testing out the new Netflix streaming capabilities on my Xbox and I'm pleased to say that it works very, very well. Instant movie cues, unlimited for 8.99 a month? Pssshht, ok. Sold.

I watched a Joni Mitchell documentary which I hadn't seen before. (Well, I have seen parts of it on PBS.) David Crosby was talking about his method of promoting her in the early days and how easy it was to get the word out. Basically he'd roll a few joints for his friends, set her down in front of them and say, "Everyone, this is Joni. Joni would you play for us?."

I can't imagine how completely mind blowing that must have been. She was powerful back then, like some sort of fairy queen-wind chime-shaman-candle-silk-flowing goddess from the heavens. Her tone and pitch... just.... damn

Sorry, I was having an old hippie moment... uh.. "man."

I just fought my way through ghouls and mercenaries from the Farragut West Metro station to Friendship Heights. Am I up in DC? Nope, I'm playing Fallout 3.

What's that you say?

Can we see MORE of your Warhammer characters?

Of course you can.

There's a Goblin Shaman known as "Gobsmack." He's so cute! I love him like a child. This little guy tears it up in RvR because, I hide in the bushes and heal people. Ha!

And a very emo dark elf Disciple of Khaine, "Istateal."

Well, I took a chance and bought it. I must say that it is a lot of fun. Once I managed to finagle the correct settings on my graphics card, it became a lot more enjoyable. The game looked like ass right out of the box.

There are many elements ripped right from Warcraft. Aside from that I'm really enjoying the focus on realm vs realm battles. They are tons of fun. I've been in a couple of 30-50 person fights so far. I'm trying as many different characters as I can right now. On the Destruction side I'm loving the Magus, Disciple of Khaine and a Goblin Shaman.

On the Order side, I've played an dwarf Ironbreaker, a really lame-o high elf kinda sword prancing thing uh... and... ah screw it... order kinda sucks. The Ironbreakers are awesome tho.

All in all, a fun time. I've unsubbed from my 2 Coh accounts and WoW for now.

Magus on her floating disk!

Dark Elves hate High Elves, or as the goblin put it, "Why da ugly elves wanna kill da pretty ones?"

Ummm...

If you've never heard him, I suggest "Sahara Blue" or "Songs From the Cold Seas."

If you know me and I've ever played music for you, he's the composer of the ridiculously lush song behind the Rimbaud poem that begins... "Her clothes were almost off......"

As the saying goes, "In America you have David Byrne, in England Peter Gabriel, in France, Hector Zazou.

See you in ambient heaven.

"French ambient/neoclassical innovative composer and record producer Hector Zazou passed away in hospital this morning after falling seriously ill earlier this year. He was 60 years old.

He worked with Galician Carlos Nuñez, Japanese Ryuichi Sakamoto, Gérard Depardieu, David Sylvian, Björk, Suzanne Vega, John Cale, Värttina, Jane Siberry, Siouxsie Sioux, Laurie Anderson, Melanie Gabriel, Lori Carson, Lisa Germano, Irene Grandi, Jane Birkin or Robert Fripp.

Crammed label enjoyed a long, friendly and fruitful relationship with Hector since the early 1980s, releasing 10 of his albums to date. 'In The House Of Mirrors', his most recently completed work, is due for release imminently."
